Thank you for your response. Your sharing and concern means allot to me. I share your experience of growing up in an unconscious family, it wasn't an easy experience. I'm sorry for your Brother's struggles, as someone who has struggled with depression myself, I hope you know your how much your caring and holding a space for him means, even if it's not expressed.

One of the biggest struggles i have with my kids is not taking on their pain and struggles as my own. I've always let my kids make their own mistakes and taught them their decisions have consequences and that life isn't fair, but its difficult and painful at times to watch them suffer. I think one of the biggest mistakes we've made as a society is to teach our kids that every one is a winner, that everyone gets a trophy just for showing up. Losing builds character, picking yourself off the floor and recovering when you've been beaten down builds character. Coming out the other side of our pain and struggles builds character. At the end of the day, coming through our pain and struggles makes us a better person.
