. It sounds like a self-worth issue was created at an early age - it's extremely widespread. The feeling of never feeling good enough (for example), then gets channeled into feeling complete through eating. Or else drawing attention. The good thing is that you know it, and can see it. It's essential therefore to realise it's not your fault and not to beat yourself up about it. But of course you realise the need to realign the bevhaviour.
I'd say bringing increased awareness into what you're eating and how will greatly help - transforming the sense of meal time into something sacred. Synchronistically, I was feeling to write a forum thread on that, which I've posted here today...
